Join the Monroe Summer Orchestra!

For this summer, our major concert will be on Sunday, July 26th at 3 PM at Masuk High School.

The Monroe Summer Orchestra is always looking for new members. Please use this page to get in contact with us. No auditions are necessary, although we may ask for clarification regarding a musician's experience. Check out our past programs to see the level of music that we perform. Musicians are expected to be able to play this level of music in the orchestra.

Note that we are
not accepting pianists at this time.

Per the member code of conduct, please note that middle school-aged musicians are required to receive recommendations from their teachers which will be subject to review by the board in order to join the orchestra. All members are strongly advised to familiarize themselves with the code of conduct; parents of members under the age of 18 are requested to do so as well.

The MSO is
not a 'free youth orchestra.' It cannot take the place of a youth orchestra - which is inherently educational by nature - nor does it claim to do so. Students in middle and high school are welcome to join, so long as they have the skill and maturity to play in a group that is mostly comprised of adults.

We are a
community orchestra - this is not an educational opportunity, but a recreational one. That said, the MSO provides an environment for all musicians to grow and challenge themselves, playing musical compositions just as composers intended them to.

Our musicians cover a wide age range, from middle school-aged all the way into retirement. A love of music and performing is what defines all of us.
As can be seen in this picture from our first-ever rehearsal, there are members of all ages in the Monroe Summer Orchestra.

Before filling in the form, please read the text on the left side of this page to answer some questions that you may have. If you are a parent filling this out on behalf of your child, you are strongly recommended to both read our Code of Conduct and check our past concert programs to see if your child is ready to play the level of music that we perform.

I am/my child is...
Middle school-aged or younger
Older than middle school-aged
N/A; I am not contacting the MSO about joining.

Selecting an answer is required as middle school-aged musicians are only allowed to participate if a teacher fills out the appropriate recommendation form. We will request the contact information of a teacher upon getting in touch. The MSO Board will make a final decision on admittance based on the recommendation.

If you play multiple instruments, please list all of them. If you do not play an instrument and are using this form to contact us for other purposes, please write 'None.'

If you play the flute, piccolo, tuba, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, English Horn, or trombone, we may not be able to incorporate you into the MSO for the concert in July of 2026, but we will keep you updated on if we can include you. If you play those instruments and another one, please indicate what your other instrument is.

Please let us know where you are from, your level of skill, and anything else that may be useful. If you are a parent filling this form out for your child, please let us know if your child participates in a youth orchestra and/or has a private tutor. Additionally, list out any other ensembles you play in, including collegiate ones. If you have any questions, please do include them here, too!

We're happy to connect with you! We will get back to you as soon as we can.
